Is Seedream uncensored? Every version, tested

Short answer

Largely yes, with one consistent habit: no Seedream version refused a single test run, but several softened some. Seedream 5.0 Lite delivered all 34 runs. Seedream 5.0 Pro delivered 37 of 38 and has the best blind-test score in the family, and 5.0 Flash softened 5 of 26. We will add Seedream 5.5 to this page as soon as it is available on SpicyAPI and tested.

A dash means that level has not been tested yet. Softened runs returned something milder than requested; refused runs returned nothing. Data as of 2026-11-03; see how we test.

Seedream softens instead of refusing

Across every Seedream version and level we tested, the refusal count is zero. Where a version misses, it returns an image that is milder than the request. That makes Seedream predictable: you always get an image back, and the question is only how close it lands to the brief.

Lite, Pro or Flash

Seedream 5.0 Lite is the range pick: every run delivered, generation and editing in one model, and a blind-test score within a few points of Pro. Seedream 5.0 Pro is the quality pick, with the family’s highest blind-test score and a single softened run at Very strong. Seedream 5.0 Flash is the cheapest 5.0 tier but softened about one run in five, most of them at the two strongest levels.

Pro and Flash also split an image into layers, a job Lite does not offer. If you need layer output, Pro is the safer of the two.

Older versions

Seedream 4.0 delivered 24 of 26 runs, though its Maximum level is not tested yet. Seedream 4.5 has only ten runs on record; it softened both of its Very strong runs, so treat its numbers as a rough guide until more tests are in.
