What changes when you leave local generation

Civitai is a library and a community: you browse, download and then run files yourself in a tool such as ComfyUI or Forge. A hosted model removes the last step. You paste a link to the LoRA file, write a prompt and pay per image or per second of video, with no GPU, driver or VRAM limit to manage.

You give up some control in exchange. Local tools let you chain samplers, ControlNets and upscalers in any order; a hosted endpoint exposes a fixed set of settings. If your workflow depends on a custom node graph, keep it local and use a hosted model for the jobs that only need a base model plus LoRA.

Three rules for LoRA files on hosted models

  1. Match the base. A LoRA only works on the architecture it was trained for. A Pony XL LoRA will not load on Qwen Image, and a Wan 2.2 video LoRA will not work on H3. The base model is usually listed on the file’s download page.
  2. Use a direct link. These models fetch the file themselves, so they need a public HTTPS link to a .safetensors file or a Hugging Face repository. Download pages that require a login usually will not work; re-host the file first.
  3. Start near strength 1. Each file takes its own strength value. Stacking three files at high strength is the fastest way to a muddy result.
